This new tool by Google won’t reach the general public as easily as Google Maps (now Google Local) or Gmail. However, for webmasters it will be a major player in this market. It’s basically Urchin, a company that was bought by Google a little while ago. Until now, Google was charging 199$/month just to access the service. They have now made it free (for the first 5M page views, or unlimited if you have an AdWords account).
Urchin 5 analyzes traffic for one or more websites and provides accurate and easy-to-understand reports on your visitors – where they come from, how they use your site, what converts them into customers, and much more. If you have content behind a security firewall or on an intranet or internal network that prevents you from using the Google Analytics service, Urchin 5 software is for you.
If you have a website running, I think you should give Google Analytics a good look.
