Today, at the TCT 2007 Conference in Coventry, Creaform unveiled their new scanner, the EXAScan. This scanner comes in to expand the Handyscan3d product line, along with the existing REVScan.
According to Creaform, the EXAScan is able to achieve resolutions 5 times greater and precisions 2 times better than the existing REVScan. It will also feature automatic multi-resolution. The user will be able to acquire data in higher resolution and it will be seamlessly integrated with the rest of the surface. This is especially nice since the scanner directly yields the surface and does not rely on an point cloud to structure its 3D data.
As with the REVScan, the EXAScan will be self-positioned: there is no need for a positioning device such as an arm or a CMM. This system makes it possible to move the scanner and the scanned piece independently and thus acquire the piece in its entierty.
Since it is based on the REVScan, it retains all of its advantages:
- Handheld
- Highly portable
- Automatic surface generation
- Easy to use and to learn
The EXAScan is a highly versatile tool that can be used in many application domains, such as aerospace and aeoronautics, medical, multimedia and much more.
