Russia plans to launch its first satellite for the remote sensing of the Earth in late 2006, a senior space official said Tuesday.”The Federal Space Program for 2006-2015 suggested the creation of seven remote sensing systems to obtain “fundamental knowledge about the Earth and monitor natural resources”. This new tool by Google won’t reach the general public as easily as Google Maps (now Google Local) or Gmail. However, for webmasters it will be a major player in this market. It’s basically Urchin, a company that was bought by Google a little while ago. Until now, Google was charging 199$/month just to access the service. They have now made it free (for the first 5M page views, or unlimited if you have an AdWords account).
